The Indian National Congress will organise a series of public meetings titled ‘Jai Hind Sabhas’ across the country from May 20 to May 30, to honour the bravery and success of India’s Armed Forces, the party announced on Thursday.

Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal stated in a post on X, “The Indian National Congress will hold ‘Jai Hind Sabhas’ across India to salute the supreme valour and success of our Armed Forces. We also must raise serious questions on security lapses, the Government’s handling of national security, and its silence on the concerning involvement of the US in our national security matters.”

These events will be held in key cities including Delhi, Barmer, Shimla, Haldwani, Patna, Jabalpur, Pune, Goa, Bengaluru, Kochi, Guwahati, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bhubaneswar, and Pathankot, and will feature participation from army veterans, party leaders, and the general public.

The announcement comes as part of the Congress party’s broader push to support national security while holding the government accountable for recent lapses, particularly following the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir that claimed 26 lives.

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh reinforced the party’s unwavering support for the armed forces. “We are standing with our armed forces like a rock. We support all actions taken against Pakistan and have demanded a special session of Parliament to discuss the security situation,” Ramesh said.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi have jointly written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him to convene a special parliamentary session to address national security concerns and the aftermath of the terror attack.

Meanwhile, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched its own campaign, the ‘Tiranga Yatra’, on May 13 to celebrate the success of Operation Sindoor—India’s retaliatory military strike on May 7, which targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), resulting in the deaths of over 100 terrorists. The BJP’s campaign is scheduled to run until May 23.

The Congress’ Jai Hind Sabhas aim to complement these nationalistic sentiments while spotlighting gaps in governance and pressing for greater accountability on national security matters.
